A total of 22 bartenders from local bars competed for the title of “Macau Bartender of the Year” at Sky21 Restaurant and Bar on the 12th December. Organized by the Union of Bartender & Cocktails of Macau (UBCM), the competion has run for 2 consecutive year now.
“We see that bartending in Macau is improving. Our idea is to expand this competition to a bigger event, so that we can involve the local community as well and give them the opportunity to experience new bar trends and concepts” Bruno Santos.
Focusing on an original recipe, each contestant was asked to make a creative cocktail inspired by a story of their choice, with a modern twist. On site, every contestant prepared 2 drinks simultaneously, both for showmanship presentation and judge’s blind tasting.
The competition attracted some 60 spectators, including representatives from the International Bartenders Association (IBA) and other influential bar personalities from around Asia.
Local bartenders Ivo Ho (Sky21 Restaurant & Bar) and Jerry Li (Galaxy Resort) received from IBA Vice-President Asia Mr. Tom Kuo and IBA President Mr. Derrick Lee hands the JWC Eagle Pride Pin, which represent that successfully completed the IBA Elite Bartenders Course.
